How will we LIVE, WORK and PLAY in Columbus in the year 2050?
As an ULI Columbus Advisory Board Member, I wanted to share a little regarding an important planning series taking place this year.
The Columbus chapter of Urban Land Institute (ULI), in partnership with the City of Columbus, Franklin County, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and the Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture Department of City & Regional Planning, is engaging in a regional visioning initiative - The City in 2050: Creating Blueprints for Change in Columbus (Columbus 2050). They will focus on eight themes to explore strategic urban development issues in the Central Ohio region by asking: How will we LIVE, WORK and PLAY in Columbus in the year 2050?
This project will build on the planning efforts of the 12 counties in the Central Ohio region to provide a broad vision of the factors impacting regional development into our future. Columbus 2050 will provide an overarching planning initiative to provide a common resource that can be used by local governments and planning organizations moving forward.
ULI Columbus is hosting eight events for Columbus 2050 throughout the year, each with a different theme. The events will include presentations by local experts and conversations important to both current issues and long-term planning. The themes are as follows:
- The City Wild
- Full Spectrum Housing
- Getting Around
- Water, Power, Light
- Whole Buildings
- Master Planned Communities
- Click, Learn, Go, Get
- Metro Metrics
These topics will be critical to responsible and smart planning of our region for years to come and have a major bearing on issues such as transportation, sustainability, housing, energy and infrastructure as a whole. ULI Columbus is responsible for the overall planning and execution of the initiative and has campaigned to create public awareness. The results of this study will be presented at a public event planned for June 2012.
